Recently (5/18/2018 – 5/20/2018), I was lucky enough to be involved in a meet up for Mermen and Mermaids called “Mermaid Weekend in Sacramento”.
This event would happen to be my first ever, and of all the things for me to do, I would be working the event as a photo-op for people staying at The Hyatt Regency, and guests of the event alike.
During the event I was able to meet a lot of people and create relationships that will hopefully span many years to come. A few to mention right off the bat were Merman Icarus and Merman Garnet. These two were caring and oh so helpful before, during, and after the event. I couldn’t thank them enough.
Mermaid weekend has been hosted by the Mermaid Atlantis and partnered with Mermaid and Mom, as well as Pixie Tribe for some years now. I was absolutely shocked to see how many people showed up and also for the announcement of an exciting event to come next year: “The California Mermaid Convention of 2019!” This is amazing and will be hosted by Mermaid and Mom, as well as, Pixie Tribe.
These people mean a lot to me, even though we have only known each other for a short period of time. Here is a little bit about two important merfolk. First, there is Rachel, an amazing woman that runs her own business, Mermaid and Mom, and also manages The Divebar Mermaids. Rachel has brought me into the Divebar family and I couldn’t be more happy. She may have a lot on her plate, but always makes time to help me with my training and answer all the odd questions I can think of. Calling her boss, is the least I can do!
Also, Merman Jax from Dark Tide Productions, he is the reason I worked this event. He provided me with one of his tails to use which, amazingly enough, fit like a glove. After the event, Jax gave me the option to work under his company as a team member of Dark Tide Productions. I gladly accepted and felt blown away.
This weekend has started my career as a Professional Merman and I can’t wait to see where this journey leads me!
